Don Murphy.net- The Live Action Movie Blog has found a bit of information regarding why there has been no large media blitz like before with the first movie and its trailers.

In a Sunday post by Don Murphy himself, at Don Murphy.net, Mr. Murphy makes a few statements regarding ROTF:

Don Murphy: "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen has finished shooting and is in the capable hands of Michael Bay and Industrial Light and Magic. If you liked the first movie, this is in the same vein, just more exciting, more spectacle and more robots. The first one was a MONSTER worldwide hit. The second will be the same because I think it will entertain even more than the first. You haven't seen much information leak this time, primarily because everyone knows it works already! June 27, 2009, place it in your calendar!"

Poster: "Don, I'll only pester you with one ROTF question:
When are we going to start seeing trailers/posters/marketing in general for the film? Do you know?"

Don Murphy: "we're kind of trying to follow the PIRATES OF CARIBBEAN model, that is, no publicity for as long as possible, since the sequel will have enormous attention no matter what we do"

How does that strike you? No word on any trailer, and it looks like there is not one coming any time soon. Discuss below whether you think the 'PIRATES course' is a wise course of action, or not.

my husband will like the idea. He dos not like trailers as they usually show all the good bits in a movie leaving little for surprise.

To be honest, that makes perfect sense. So many people got hyped up about the first movie, and despite its huge success, many still said they didn't like it.

With no hype, I bet those naysayers will be getting in line to see the sequel too.

Maybe save money on advertizing so that it can be used on the movie itself.

Well... meh. It's a rather disappointing development for me. I'll see the sequel regardless, but it'll be hard to get really excited about it when the only information coming out beforehand is all potentially dubious. It'll kind of feel like, "*blink* Oh, the movie's out now? Where was I? OK, off to the theater..."

Plus it'd be good to have more current things to talk about that aren't AHM. (At least the Animated info dribbles are fun and getting me excited for Season 3, and Maximum Dinobots is out soon...)

hah, i remember initially they had no script, no art team, not even sure they signed with bay again - but they had a date - june 07.

smells like those movies with no press screenings, because they suck and the producers want to avoid the bad press.
I dont know if many of you know, but theaters and movie companies divide their profits so that movie companies rake most of the profits of the first week, and theaters get later weeks. so profits from the first weekend aren't just for braking records on boxofficemojo.com, they actually matter.

apparently they aim for the highest number they can get on the first weekend, based solely on the hype made by the first movie - and then a rapid decline.

lets hope i'm wrong, but sadly, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck....

Well, at least there's some good news concerning this movie. I absolutely hated the last one, and I expect this one to be even worse. The fewer reminders I have that this travesty is coming out, the better.

I certainly am not missing seeing any trailers! Too much hype usually means that a movie is not going to be that good.

I didn't watch Pirates till it was on TV.

I will go see TF2 with the hope that they do not have any more juvenile humor regarding bodily functions like peeing on people.

I like it too, for this reason. On the other hand, though, I really liked the sector7.org campaign. Don't really expect that to be revived given how the last movie ended, but I wouldn't mind something along the lines of that...

I haven't even seen Pirates. Also kind of agree about too much hype. Like I was saying about the S7 stuff before, I didn't mind the viral campaign from last time. They just don't need to get too top-heavy about it.

My vote for the HOF goes to my favorite Transformer, Kup, to the Headmasters (who still need new figures that aren't just the characters without their master components) and to seibertron.com for for being the ultimate TF resource.

Well, it's an strategy.

I can't tolerate people who are bashing a movie before it's even released, FFS.

I expect it to be good, at least on pair with the first film. If it handles to do that: great. I enjoyed the first film.

If someone doesn't like how they are handling the movie, well wait for the reboot in 2017.

In the meantime, i'll get my popcorn, and be queuing on June 27 to see the movie.

Can't say as I completely agree or disagree here.

On one hand, I understand not wanting to spoil the movie.
And, yes, the hype is already incredible.
It's kind of like a Cloverfield type of thing, in a way.

On the other hand, I want Bay & Crew to throw me a bone here.
I've been looking forward to TF2 for *how long* now?
I'd like to see a trailer. Just one.

Remember how much everyone was looking forward to "The Dark Knight"?
And then the first trailer hit, and everyone went wild.
I'll bet they could really set off the hype for ROTF if they give us the tiniest preview.

But that's just my thoughts...
Sic vis pacem, para bellum.
Autem semper audi alteram partem.
Et facere et pati fortia Autobot est.

HaHa, I can see where I messed up on describing that one properly.

I guess that using juvinile humor to try to convince the audience that someone in their mid twenties is a teen by putting masturbation in there and trying to convince everyone that Bumblebee was supposed to act like a teen by peeing on someone, just lacked writing talent. It really put me off.
There are loads of good movies out there that have decent juvinile humor. :D

I kinda agree. (With Don Murphy) These things that get hyped months and years(!) before their release loose steam. Hit us with the hype with about a month to go, to make sure those who don't follow the movie scene but liked the first one know there's a sequel coming out. (I bet a lot don't even know yet)

A trailer at this point would be nice for the fans who are following it, though.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2
Budget 225 million est.
Domestic Gross 423 million

Pirates of the Caribbean 3
Budget 300 million est.
Domestic Gross 300 million

So while the second one wasn't a flop, the third barely made it's budget back in the US.

So as long as they follow the second film's advtertising strategy they'll be fine. Also this is US totals only, NOT worldwide. It's a shame too as the third film was a much stronger and better put together film than the second.

Here's hoping the ad gambit pays off for TF 2. But considering I have I don't know how many people at work asking me for more info on TF 2, I really don't think they need much advertising.

This sums up my thoughts well enough. People who liked the first (and there are a lot more of them than against) have been waiting ever since the first movie came out for the second one. Now to find they won't be actually hyping the movie until close to release, I find myself losing interest extremely fast. There's really been nothing of interest (aside from a few pics) to talk about, so even a teaser right now would be appreciated. Give us something to help spur some discussions.

My brother asked me last week IF there'll be a sequel, the silence of the movie makers is bad, while fans are on the internet and fishing every info that's leaked, the people who liked the first movie but aren't collectors get almost no info...

To show a TF1-style teaser would be about freakin' time!

Seconded. I understand not tryin' to overhype the sequel, but you don't want people loosing interest either.

Sorry, Im not buying this.

Iron Man was ridiculously hyped and it was a huge hit.

The Dark Knight was even more hyped and it was even bigger than Iron Man.

I think they are doing this to avoid criticism. The last movie was critically viewed as fun but empty like most Bay movies. If the sequel is just the same but multiplied there may be a backlash.
