I personally hate and loathe Snake Eyes. he, like Drift and others, steal the spotlight from characters that could use a lot of attention.

So, yes. I hate Drift.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

Snake Eyes has been a character since the early days of the Real American Hero brand name, been an integral part of the Jo team, and has had reams of backstory developed by writers who respect the character.

Drift has been a character for less than a year in a brand that's lasted nearly 25, forced down readers’ throats by a self-congratulatory writer in a series generally devoid of anything good, and treated with far more reverence than he truly deserves.

No, I’m not seeing the comparison at all.

The **** are they so obsessed with Drift? Seriously idw gave us Nova Prime, badass undead Galvatron and transsexual Arcee, why not focus on the interesting characters instead of made of fail Drift?

Because Drift is cool.
Nemesis/Nova Prime was a wanna be Darth Vader.
Galvatron (undead or otherwaise) has been done to death.
Crazy transexual Arcee was a great concept but she was wasted by Furman.

How is Drift being forced down our throats? With a toy, a role in the ongoing series, and possible mini-series or a TPB collection of old material?

Snakes-Eyes is the real reason I don't read G.I. Joe comics he's overused and over rated as a character.

I mean Simon Furman's IDW stuff was horrible, techno babble ripped out of Star Trek, piss-poor and/or no real solid characterization for anybody, incredibly stupid humans, lame go-nowhere concepts like The Reapers, The Dead Universe, Skywatch, The Machination, Sunstreaker has a headmaster, and tons of stupid and weak endings.

The few things he did do right like make Thunderwing and the Pretender concept make sense. Giving Galvatron a new origin, making Sixshot a threat, and Arcee a crazy physco-bot, unfortunately he wasted every chance he had to do anything meaningful with these characters. After slogging through all his IDW stuff I honestly couldn't tell you WTF was going on and quite frankly by the time I got through the God-Awful Revelations and Maximum Dinobots I really didn't care. I never want to see Simon Furman writing another Transformers: G1 series ever again.

Shane McCarty saved my interest in Transformers comics. I think that Drift is an interesting character and with a ton of great potentional.

Because the only reason he got any of that is because Shane doesn't know what a Mary Sue is, and decided to introduce Drift for no reason at all other than to have him there.

3 Months before AHM #6, Drifts first ever appearance, idw announces Spotlight Drift with the press release "Fan favourite" character Drift gets his long awaited Spotlight.
Drift is then introduced as MR "Super awesome" I am too cool for you bad guy character.
IDW uses fromt hen on every chance they can get to state how the character is going to get a toy, which turned out to be true.
Robot Masters I am Optimus Prime Drift is included and described as Prime's BFF.
The newest reboot shows him once again, standing there doing sh*t all and then dissapears but so that we won't forget him idw give him an own TPB.

The only reason Revelations sucked as much as it did was due to the fact that Simon had to cram in 16 issues worth of story into a 4 issue series due to McCarthy's 4 issue but spread over 12 issues G1 cartoon fan fiction which fitted so well into established canon that it needed 4 extra issues just to make it fit a little better. AHM was full of useless human side stories that seemed to serve no other purpose as to distract from the main story so that it would fit into 12 issues and ultimately lead no ware.
The only way Drift will ever have any potential other than "Awesum durr kawai Desu KAWAI!" is when he's handled by someone who can write, like Furman, Christ Mowry or Nick Roach just to name a few heck even the haxs that wrote the TF movies are better than Shane.
the only enjoyable thing about AHM was Guido's art, the Constructicon's arrival and Reflector's monologue - the rest was crap which was also one of the worst comic reading experiences I have ever had.

While I can agree that IDW certainly decided to start the hype engine on Drift before we had a chance to find out anything about Drift.

But I have yet to have anyone fully explain how Drift falls into a Mary Sue role. Nothing I have read or seen has shown me that Drift is an avatar for McCarthy within G1, just something he felt wasn't there and how he could leave his mark.

Yes, Drift has been retroactively placed in IDW's G1 stories, but there is no difference between his addition to the IDW line, than Bulkhead and Slipstream in Animated being surrounded by G1 based characters, but you don't see people going around calling bulky a Derrick Wyatt Marty Sue, or Slip being a Marty Isenberg Mary Sue.

I thought the character was interesting, while not overly exciting, and I likely will get the toy as it is nifty.

Oh I'll also get a version of the toy, but not the first version I'll wait for a repaint. I just don't like his current deco.
The reason nobody bitches about Bulky or Slipstream is the fact that they are not a retake on G1 but in a new re-imagining of the franchise where everything is just as new as they are.

And I'm only bitching about Drift's existence due to idw's artificial hype around him and the way the character has been executed, and I was the one who defended him when he was first announced....... :BOOM:

Full agreement. IDW dropped the ball fully. Had they spread things out, like putting the spotlight out after AHM, and not hyped it as much, then it could have been a more successful insertion. Instead they when for they quick hit, likely expecting larger pre-order numbers in exchange.

So were Budiskey's Straxus (aka Darknount) and Furman's Jixhaus, Impactor, and Leige Maximo.

Your point is that you don't like McCarty and Drift, fine that is your right, but don't forget Furman and Budiskey did it too.

No, Revelations sucked because it was stupid period. If Furman has 12-16 issues it still would have sucked just as bad. His whole IDW run was most part pure and total crap. He had a few momonets of genuis but they were too few and way too far apart to save it.

I got more enjoyment out of All Hail Megatron #1-6 than I did through all of the previous IDW and DW comics combined and was the most emotional graphic novels that I've read since I first read Watchmen years ago.

No, it sucked because AHM came along and effin' cut it short before Furman's work was picking up steam. All those dropped plot that didn't go anywhere? They mjight've if McCarthy didn't screw the proverbial pooch with AHM! :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD:

And seriously, the humans were a nice change of pace from the Witwicky's. Furman was trying to do something different with the series... and it was working until cut short.

No, it was IMHO a bad story. Period. No matter how Furman wanted or intended it to be published it still would've sucked IMO. Crap is crap no matter how long or shot it is. 90% of Furman's IDW output was crap IMHO.

Just because something makes a lot of money and gets a critical acclaim and has ton of fans means it's great (look at Twilight) if you liked the IDW Books of Furman great for you. I didn't. I thought it had potentional but was mostly boring, pointless, and stupid.

Some friendly words of advice: don't ever assume you know or understand anything about me from a few posts here or anywhere else. Because you don't know or understand me and chances are you never will know me or understand me.

Actually I perfer character driven stories more better than brainless sci-fi action stories with no characters, like what Furman did in his IDW run. I find the action in most comics pretty boring and I found the characters more enjoyable, real, and complex in All Hail Megatron than anything he did at IDW.

I enjoyed All Hail Megatron more because the Decepticons seemed more real and frightening to me, and for once G1 Megatron wasn't a just an evil bad guy for sake of being an evil bad guy, he had a different take on the universe than I do, much like Vedit did in Watchmen and at the climax wasn't a major letdown.

All I get from this is that you enjoy plot less no brain violence over story. And most emotional graphic novel since Watchmen?   Man the balls you have to put Watchmen and AHM on the same level is just astounding. Wow just wow.

Heh, heh! I'm a little bit scared here, folks - but at least don't feel lame now for admitting that I liked AHM. Some of the IDW reprints of old stuff I didn't particularly like, but I read it anyway just to satisfy my newfound addiction. Most everything else I've really enjoyed.
I know I might be a recently born again fan and all, and I don't mean any disrespect to anyone - I get the passion, but I don't really get the hostility. I've always thought that the interest in TF was in large part due to it's potential to go anywhere. Where would you guys like to see the storyline go? Who would you pick, if all current and past writers have fallen out of favor, to take that bold step towards writing the TF future? If not expanding on a character like Drift who's been in contact with a third faction - where else would you take this potentially huge universe?
