Weapon: Air Rifle
A shopping list of things the game really needs....

1) Several programming buddies that can work together to build the game.

2) A new, modular design-- that's right, rebuild the thing from the floor up. Make it similar enough to the old game that us old fogeys like it, but new and open enough that it's enticing to everyone else.

3) A strong community behind it that can egg on the programmers, can agree on new ideas and generally not act like a bunch of fags when something new is thrown to them to chew on.

4) On the heels of that last one, a working feedback system so everyone can have their say and be happy.

But most of all, the game needs several new programmers, all working together in a single coding style (that's easy to do, there's really only one proper way to write any coding language, even if you can say the same thing in a hundred different ways).

Less pressure on everyone, less work to get done for each, no feeling of isolation from the HMW community, and the team spirit, as every series of transformers has taught us, will make anything possible.

Exactly, teamwork!

Yeah so, anyway I was thinking of something new a place where you bet energon on arena battles, sort of like battle beast`s but you can check stats and things of the sort, it could be really interesting.

That's a totally awesome idea.

That is a very neat idea! I like it very much so! How would the winnings be decided though? Would the winner of the arena battle get any? How would it be split amongst the winners because I am sure not just one person is going to bet per arena battle.

Battle Beast's existing code would likel;y be easy enough to reuse. all you do is remove th RNG code and make it respond to the winning faction. For simplicity's sake, it doesn't matter how many people bet, each wager is handled seperately, but based on the same data.

Although, that does risk an inflation of the value of energon, although some bots *cough*RoS/NM*Cough* have enough anyway, so it may not matter.

Alternatively, the code might workk someing akin to [Payout]=[Amount waged]+([total wagers for losing faction]/[number of wages made for winning faction])

So If I bet 100 on the bots, and three other autobots did as well, and four cons bet a total of 800 energon on the con, then the payout would be 100+(800/4)=100+200= 300 energon. In theory, easy as pie. But I don't know squat about code, so getitng it to keep track of the total bot for each arena battle for each faction, or two pots per match, as well as being able to get it to look at the right outcome, might be rather difficult. Also, it does risk betters only getting back their portion of the pot, but at least they come out without a loss.

What we need is a programmer who we don't know is a programmer so we don't end up scaring them off again before they're done with at least the first part of the new version of the game.

We go through programmers on this game like the Wizard goes through Greenhorns. It's scary!

I'm not sure what the old code is written in, but as far as I'm concerned it needs to be done in php compatible with the current site version.

As for a programmer. We need someone calm, cool and not gonna take **** for no one. So far we've had programmers that go off in huffs and don't like discussing things, or else are too close-minded.

There's nothing wrong with the programmer being known by site name, as long as he's a mature adult (no matter the age) who has some form of people skills.

Gosh darn it! There are programmers out there! WHERE ARE THEY!? I would do it, but I am a beginner. I would not want to be responsible for anything.

Bubblegum and paper clips.

And part of the maturity, is not only the programmer, but the posters. We also need to understand that what we think is secluded not talking" is juat "Gosh darn it, good work takes time. I can tell you about it, or I can be doing something". A proper balance is needed, but we can't always be getting a play-by-play. And, this is an obligation, like any other volunteer effort, but the fact that the programmer is not being paid does not rank HMW above family or a relative form of sanity. And is it don't happen, they should well have the right to tie up loose ends and say "I cannot do it", like any other volunteer effort.

Good coding etiquette ivolves using notation to explain what each part of a programmer specifically does.

I think if we got a decent programmer (NB not a casual one, like we've had in the past), then if they left the code if they went someone else could at least carry on from where they dropped off. The notes would point out what's been done and what links where.

It was aimed at Rage.

Let's add under the "Fix what we got" category, getting some of these alts up to par as it is. Pff the top of my head, I just reset a bot to the War Within Swoop alt and went to do a color change, and discovered what that lovely pic of Prime with the X stands for...

That's fair enough for a pair of pint-sized targetmasters, but I'd rather a nice fire engine red and one in Midnightg Blue over the faded bubblegum that is the standard color. And it's one of Windy's alts that Mkall put in. I remember requesting it. Just not in that color

Just a thought about the intelligence stat, it seems to me that all the plans for its use are quite difficult to implement. So I have slightly simpler idea: in battle the intelligence stat makes you prioritise the higher level enemies first (done by level not any particular stat).

This would have the benefit of effectively making the more intelligent characters learn faster, which nicely fits the concept behind the stat.

It would also benefit the lower level bots by allowing them to survive long enough to make a couple of attacks in the 1-11 type missions and hopefully get a nice xp haul as a reward, as well as benefitting higher level characters by ensuring they are not 'wasting' their shots on level 1's for pitiful xp return, only to then find someone else has bagged all the higher level enemies and their xp to boot.

I'm not quite sure how this would be implemented (perhaps link intelligence stat to level of bot you target first ie a stat of 4 means your character would prioritise level 4 or higher bots before just randomly attacking anything else)

Thoughts?

that sounds like a good and simple way for INT to work, could also get it to work for repair in the same way as well by repairing higher levels

Alternatively, you could use Rank as the way to work out repair priorities - higher up the command chain you'll get greater priority. I suppose it would work something like this; when the repair effect is triggered it would target the team mate with the highest rank first. gives rank an in battle use as well.

I suppose the philosophy behind this stat tweaking is to make each stat as useful as the others to prevent only three or four builds ever emerging. greater diversity would be interesting; do you want a high damage output character (str) or one who is more likely to receive medical attention on the field, allowing them to fight for longer (rnk)
