Have we gotten a ton of Dinobots repaints? Yea. After retail, SDCC, and platinum v1, this is the 4th release of these in the US (not to mention the Takara mainline, Black Knight redecos, and other Lost Age exclusives). But to say you have to put up with it? C'mon. This is not making your life any worse, so let people enjoy it in all its mediocre glory.

These really do not interest me. I'll admit I am not a fan of bayformers regardless of what the heads look like. I feel like Hasbro is playing us for suckers sometimes. It's stuff like this that pushes me towards third party toys. Hasbro has the resources to create more masterpiece figures but I think they're focusing on keeping costs down by cranking out the same figures in different colors and new heads. I would love to see G1 Dinobot reissues and please for the love of Primus, they do not have to be combiners. And don't retool these guys into terrorcons. I'll mutiny. I swear I will.

Exactly, I roll my eye's at some of the cliched one's (lame bumblebee variants, and bumblebee => cliffjumper, etc.) but I don't mind them usually. In fact, I usually hold out on a mold, if a cooler variant is coming (straxus / skullgrin - I wanted skullgrin)
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

I just wish the SDCC set had these new heads. IMO, this set isn't as good as the SDCC set overall, but those new heads definitely are.

I'm actually considering getting a set of these just to stick the heads on my SDCC dinos. Which is stupid and wasteful. Just gotta keep telling myself that. Stupid and wasteful... stupid and wasteful ...

I dunno why there's backlash against G1-ing these guys. I'd rather Hasbro make 100% new Generations Dinobots too (all voyager size), but that just isn't going to happen. Plus Classics is a huge mishmash of styles, especially if you've been aboard from the start. I'm just glad you retail guys can get a team of Classics Dinobots (although I'm envious of the new heads).

And, anyway, if you wanna spend outlandish amounts of money there's 3rd party dinos. That's always an option.

Well, I'd buy these, and use them as Generations Dinobots, but there's one big issue, Strafe's two heads. If there was an unofficial upgrade that gave him one head, this set would be a dream come true.

And here's another for the road. Voyager Grimlock actually had an extra redeco retail release in the states in the form of his evolution 2 pack. So this would be Hasbro's 5th use of the mold. And Hasbro really went all out on that redeco as you can see below ;)

Ummm.... Hasbro has never ever created a Masterpiece figure from scratch. Ever. All their MP releases are just Takara molds distributed and rereleased in the US. Just like the good old days of G1.

aw, now I am conflicted. I wanted them to be my AoE Dinobots all G1 themed, not actually the G1 Dinos taking on the AoE bodies. Though as much as I like the AoE Knight heads the G1 style heads suit the bodies a lot better than one might expect. I may still have to buy these anyways (though I wish they came with optional switchable heads)
I have anxiety, depression and aspergers syndrome so my behaviour can be erratic. I don't mean offense to anyone. Just very picky about my Transformers collecting. You're all cool! :)

Likes: Bayverse, Marvel UK G1, Geoff Senior art, '86 movie (more for style/soundtrack rather than Star Wars plot)
Dislikes: Bumblebee movie (lousy rehashed dumb crud), TFA, G1 cartoon, IDW G1, BW/BM, MP. The entire concept of Autobot Megatron

Well, new heads. Great, but I have the SDCC set.

It's a good choice for those who still want G1 colored AOE Dinobots. The heads look good.

This is probably the first Platinum edition set that i've wanted to get.

I'll definitely get them for the old CHUG shelves.

I'm hoping it'll be fairly straightforward to swap out Strafe's torso for the blue one from Generations strafe, to give him cartoon accurate colours. :-?

I'll probably shelf the grimlock from this set though, as I'm not a big fan of that grimlock mold, and I already have the G1 colours FOC grimlock with the ArtTek RetroRex head and blaster upgrade sets.

And if I'm doing those 2 things I might as well apply a conservative whiff of red paint to Slug's new head.

Yeah, screw it. These guys are preordered as soon as they appear on TFexpress or Kapow.

You can put a pretty ribbon on a turd, but it is still a turd. Sadly, the fandom shovels out mass amounts of money every time Hasbro does it.

These are the Dinobots. One of the most beloved of all the G1 lines. The deserve far more than repaints of horrible aoe toys. I knew this is what would happen. I expect d no better from Hasbro, and yet, there was still that part of me that hoped. That part is dead, the void filled with rage.

This is why the 3rd party market does so well, and someday may even rival Hastak. They give the consumer what they really want. Look at the Dinobot offerings from Toyworld, Fansprojects, or PlanetX, and then look at this "platinum" set, and you all tell me.

3rd party is only alive because Hasbro doesnt care to waste money and time taking them down. Those companies are not making big profits at all, and can barely keep up with their costs, or else Hasbro would already have taken them down. Legally speaking, it is impossible for them to ever rival Hasbro. If you want your statements to be taken seriously, you should really avoid hyperboles of such.

I actually took a good look at third party toys recently and discovered there was just as much garbage as good stuff (one of those Predakings is an absolute joke for instance). And the truth is even fans know that deep down third party isn't the real thing and only a temporary substitute until Hasbro comes along with something they wanted. That mentality alone proves Hasbro's rightful superiority. Fansproject Warbot Defender's popularity is the equivalent of a fad. I dont see Generations Springer ever going down in value in 5-10 year's time.

I get that you are angry at the current situation, but do not delude yourself into thinking that third party companies are the ultimate answer. They are a far bigger gamble and you should thread carefully.

If I may, I'll list the reasons why I'm not too bothered by this set:

1) Platinum Editions have always been redecos/retools or reissues. Put bluntly, re-releases of molds seen in regular retail.
2) Proper Dino molds are few and far between, most being either a T-Rex, Pterosaur, or a Ceratopsid. Stegosaurus is a close runner-up, with the tail-ender being Sauropods (long-necks). AoE is the only series to have all those groups, and them some, so they have to do.
3) The G1 Dinobot molds are rumored lost, or at the very least unavailable. To add that, Sludge and Swoop haven't seen action since G1, being planned for G2 but went unreleased.
4) Any new-mold toy has to fit with the theme of any current line it's released in. Combiner Wars? Nope. Titan Wars with Headmasters? Nope. Maybe the line after that (Dino Wars?), but I wouldn't count on it.

Could Hasbro have done better? Yes, but with the self-imposed limits, I don't see them do that any time soon.
