People keep thinking recasting molds is easy as pie (which it is, you'd just need the Master Copy), but keep in mind, new molds made from scratch cost
thousands of dollars (cutting molds is the most expensive part of creating a toy) depending on the materials used and how complicated the overall tooling is (the more intricate the tooling, the more molds that need to be made). Obviously, the more original molds from G1 that can still be used despite their age, the less new molds that have to be newly made, thus lowering production costs.
Funny Megatronus mentioned reissues possibly shelfwarming, because that's what they tend to do. In fact, the Commemorative Series of reissues by Hasbro was canceled because Toys 'R Us no longer wanted to carry the line. The reason? They didn't move fast enough. TakaraTomy isn't immune to that either: Stepper shelfwarmed rather heavily there (despite the whole "rare" monnicker the toy has), and God Ginrai was seriously overproduced.
Reissue are, and always will be, a tricky business with demand, cost of reproducing the toy, and expected sales.
