Wow... I don't even know where to begin with how much the Ghostbusters would get owned. =x Can you picture them trying to take down Zaraki Kenpachi with a proton pack and one of their traps?

Well they would have to cross the streams, a lot.

Plus considering how old the Proton tech would be, they'd have to come up with new ways to deal with the ghosts and such.

However, with their ingenuity they'd be able to catch a few soul reapers. Maybe hold up a trap as they're being attacked and open it then.

But yeah, the Shinigami would totally ruin the ghostbusters.

Maybe against some of the lower end guys, but against Lieutenants or Captains, they're pretty much dead.

Although you'd have to think, if they could get a shot off on any of them, they'd probably have them down for the count--Remember, Proton Streams cause things to burn, and burn good.

There are 4 Ghostbusters, not 3. 3 of them all hold PHD's in one or more fields, so calling them stupid, is well, retarded.

Home made equipment that happens to be unlicensed nuclear accelerators, a system that actually traps and holds incorporeal beings, a setup that allowed them to slime and control the Statue of Liberty using a Nintendo Controller.

I think their ingenuity vastly outweighs what went into a Shinigami sword.

They may not win against a Shinigami, but please don't say retarded and biased things.

Yes Shinigami are Death Gods, they aren't just "like" spirits. They are spirits. The only difference is they've been given a badge and trained. They are ghosts, now, what does a Proton Stream do to a ghost? It traps it in place. Now, crossing the streams ended up destroying the gateway that Gozer came through.

Since we're assuming that Ghostbusters and Shinigami operate in the same existence, this mean the gateway of Gozers would be made up of Spirit Particles, exactly the same thing that Soul Society is made up of, Spirit Particles, for the most part, are also what are in spirits, only the Soul Society collected and made the spirit particles dense to create their city.

Now, crossing the streams destroyed the gate, basically destroying Spirit Particles. This means they could, potentially, destroy a Shinigami.

Now, all the Ghostbusters, except for one, are Scientists, and taught at a University in New York, this means they would each have to have a degree, there is a reason why they are called "Doctor." They all hold PHD's.

Yes, their individual personality does define them, but thats not all that defines them. They are scientists, they are dealing with things they've never dealt with before Gozer. Yes, Egon made the calculations, but who do you think built the containment unit? Only Egon? Doubtful, highly doubtful.

Ray most likely created the schematics to build the proton packs and containment units. Considering he's the one who got the Ecto-1 in working order, it's stands to reason he also ended up building the containment unit and proton packs.

Just because Ray, for some reason, couldn't stop thinking about the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, doesn't mean he isn't clever.

Gozer wasn't a Ghost, either. He was a full-fledged God. And look how that turned out!

Shinigami are departed human souls that have gained supernatural powers. As such, their bodies are composed of ectoplasm (霊子, reishi?) and they can only be seen by other spiritually aware entities, which excludes most humans. In the series, shinigami, as well as most other types of spirits, are quite capable of influencing their environment. Additionally, they can be injured and die like regular humans, though it takes considerably greater injuries for the latter to occur than it would in regular humans.

The ghost buster equipment would work on them if they could hit them with it.

Sr.H and Shadowman's first post pretty much sum up the outcomes. the ranked shinigami would be the death of the ghost busters because of there speed and ranged attacks.

But if they get hit by two crossed proton streams...

So they have shields. So what? Any shield can only block so much energy, and with a portable nuclear reactor, they're going to have a lot to deal with. With flash-stepping etc., they'd still have an advantage in terms of not getting hit, but only for a few of them. If they have physical bodies, they'll be lucky to get away with third degree burns. If not, their definition of 'Souls' still meshes better with the Ghostbusters' definition of 'Ghosts', making them trappable.

Yeah. Proton Beams are good for holding ghosts. Physical objects burn, and burn good. Like getting hit with a highly concentrated, miniature nuclear weapon.

We have SAID already, that a Captain Class shinigami would make mince meat out of a Ghostbuster.

HOWEVER if one of them were to get hit by a ghostbuster stream. Which is likely, because if one thing Shinigami are, it's cocky. They can be trapped, and if they get hit by crossed-streams blast, they would be destroyed.

Continually saying "well the captains would win" is the same thing as saying "the sky is blue" over and over. Yes, we get it, however, their are circumstances in which the sky isn't always blue.

This is one of those circumstances, normally a captain would beat a ghostbuster. However, the shinigami are usually cocky, and would probably think "a non-quincy human? hah what could they do to us?" and would get clobbered by crossed-streams.

Uhm...ware we talking about the Kenpachi Zaraki that deliberately allowed Ichigo to get a hit in on him? Because that kind of behaviour isn't going to do him very much good, especially if stream crossing is necessary (HINT: It isn't.)

And it doesn't hurt that his vice captain likes to sit on his shoulder. Two for one sale.
