Here, let's have a contest for everyone.

Close your eyes, and listen to Darth Vader's voice talking. Remember, with your eyes close, visualize a happy, none-Dar Fader scenery, then do the same with Megatron's voice.

I really liked reading Frank Whelker laying the smack down on people that doubt him. Has anyone even heard of his other voices? Like Nibbler from Futurama, or his characters from Baldur's Gate? He has the skill to do the movie single handedly.

I found Frank Whelker's Megatron to be indicative of arrogance and distaste for nearly everything beneath him. It was as if there was a rage within him, and that his calm demeanor was just a facade. It was like... the concept of cruelty itself was given a voice. Slightly modified, it would even make a good demon voice.

I hope that if Welker retrires ( which I hope isn't too soon,) that Megatron would be his final role in another Transformers series. That would be appropriate.

Damn, that line of Roll Optimus Prime killed me. I mean it really made me sad. It goes beyond just one voice actor wishing his fellow friend and co-worker good luck. It's a two-year old Megatron wishing Optimus luck with his new adventure without his old nemesis (to the point of almost being friends) good luck. That hit home more than any interview I've heard in a while

He did voices in Baldur's gate? Damn I got to pay more attention.
Also, Megatron's voice > Darth vaders voice.

Dude, who spiked your energon?

I think the fact that Peter Cullen is voicing Optimus Prime is downright miraculous. Having Frank Welker voice Megatron too is just too much to hope for. Can't we be happy with what we've got?

X2.

I felt the same way.

Also, in spite of what many feel, I think Welker's Galvatron in Season's 3+4 kicked all kinds of @$$. Awesome charachterization and awesome range, particularly when Galvatron is screaming..."You wanna scream?! I'll give you something to scream about!!!"

Also, as someone else noted, I hope, yes, I hope that Welker's final VA role before he retires is Megatron in eithier another film, or a new series. That would be approproiate, and if you have seen the trailer for the new game, at the end when "Prime" and "Megatron" are giving their respective speeches, hearing Welker (20 years on) yell "Die Autobot!" just gave me chills.

Welker STILL has it.

I'll say. I seemingly don't like seeing half nekkid girls in sigs or avatars in sites/forums that are the complete opposite. I feel this site isn't even worksafe anymore what with questionable sigs and avatars widely used these days.

Now don't get me wrong, I understand everyone can use whatsoever sig/avvie they want to, but, I just have to wonder. How many of you think about what you're doing? Gathered from my experience from the internet in the 90's, I've learned posting things in places that don't seem appropriate enough just doesn't get you a good result. When I use anime forums, my sig's/avvie's are anime related, as on this forum my avatar is Brawl, etc.

This is also why I don't visit the shootfortheedit.com forums much, the sigs and avatar's got so out of hand at one point the bloody forum looked like a Playboy x Victoria's Secret Bulletin Board. I so did not want to get caught viewing that board at work, it would have equaled an instant loss of a job.

Back to the topic, one thing I truly appreciate is at least Welker is in the game. Perhaps one of the weirdest turn of events has got to be the Keith David thing. Here was a bit of news, Keith would be the voice of Barricade, with the news spreading like wildfire that he's voicing the movie Barricade. With the recent Aussie screening and that voice cast list released, now I even wonder if he's even in the game....

You'd be surprised how many breaks people get at work.

Perhaps if you spend more more time being among the working force you'd soon find out it's customary to label links and stuff as NSFW (Not Safe For Work).

Oh, and it's not just work. Even libraries and such. A couple years back some old female librarian will personally, verbally chew you out for anything she see's on screen other than text.

The world is different out there. The internet is no exception.

1 - I don't know who you intended the comment at but i've worked full time since I finished high school.

2 - There are sig guidelines established by the Mods and Admins. If a sig goes over those guidelines they step in and do what they need to do.

3 - Consider this. Even when you're on a break you're using work resources for your own personal use. Who's really at fault here? The person using a sig within guidelines set down by the Administrators of the website, or the person using company resources for themselves? ;;)

4 - As far as libraries go, I once again bring up the sig guidelines.

And really, if a sig complies with all the guidelines then why should a person have to consider the situations of others? They're not breaking any rules.

And it's not like those IMVU ads are really appropriate for work either ...

I don't think anyone doubts that Welker still has it. He just wasn't suited for this movie.

You wouldn't get a 40 year old to play the role of Sam Witwicky would you?

I felt that Welker's Megatron voice didn't suit the movie at all.

I disagree. As an ANCIENT alien warlord who has his share of battle scars and Autobot heads for trophies, I think his voice suits the film very aptly.

As I stated earlier, Welker can do whatever he wants with his voice, his range is so versatile. That is why he has had dozens upon dozens of varying roles over the years.

I stand by my original opinion: Welker still has it. And by "it", I mean the ability to voice Megatron for a cartoon, movie, etc.

Weaving will do well, but Welker is the better talent of the two. His long VA resume just reinforces it.

Why he was NOT chosen, we may never know.

I am certain it was not salary concerns, as Weaving commands more than Welker because of name recognition alone.

I think you forgot my very first post about this subject. I said I understand people can use the sig they want (naturally if it adhere's to the rules), but when it's on a forums not specific to it (like my example for that shootfortheedit.com forum that looked like a Playboy exhibition), I do get wondering.

Also I'm not against beautatious sigs, (if you hunt my forum locations have fun), and I think the eye candy is good. But I've gone through enough in my life to learn from it, I've met alot of people who have similar habits, I know alot of people who'd rather take it easy, I know some people who like to keep up to date with news while at work and end up on forums like this, and nowadays I make sure the things I do don't alienate people, but at least think about a child who may be browsing this forum, and the things he/she may see. You know just think....and no, my post wasn't directed at you.

That's all I'll say about that, you will do well to note that I was never against sigs nor in high favor of them, I was just voicing my opinion. I would like this subject to end now though....Which my next opinion about Frank Welker would be,

Can you imagine a G1 purist watching this movie Megatron with the G1 voice? Naturally he's gonna say "Bay, you wrecked my childhood! Now I'll never view Megatron the same way again!"

Yeah I think that'll work

Maybe it would have worked, maybe it wouldn't have. Now, I find it hard to think about "what could've been" since now we have "what is". Maybe if fan backlash is loud enough they'd make a DVD audio track with Welker....

By that reasoning, David Kaye should also have had a go.

There's no doubt that Welker has far more vocal talent than Weaving. But just because he's had the job before, doesn't mean he should automatically have the job again.

People (and i'm talking in general not aimed solely at you YFG) should wait until they see Megatron in action and hear Weaving's voice before deciding whether it was right or wrong, AND to try to do it without the fanboy bias.

looking at the movies cast on IMDB, the only two names that i recognise are Weaving and Cullen, if Welker had provided The Voice, then it would have been Welker and Cullen. this got me thinking about how Weaving is the only Mainstream actor in cast, perhaps the decision to replace Welker is not purely done on talent, but on having a coast not made up only of Fan boy and non-celebrity actors.
