Seibertron wrote:This thread is fascinating to me because of the extremes of opinions. Half of you seem like you are really geeked about this set (like myself) and the other half of you are divided into two camps: 1) it's too expensive or 2) this is a waste because it's been released in so many different colors. Here are my responses to those of you who think this is a negative thing ...

It's about what I expected the price to be. In fact, it's actually a pretty decent deal. I believe the original set of these guys went for around $30. Paying 3 times that amount is pretty standard for reissues. In fact, a lot of reissues have an even higher markup. We've been paying around $34 for Encore Autobot cars without batting an eye when in fact they were around $8 or $9 originally back in '84 and '85 ... that's about 4 times the amount of the original. A Bruticus giftset today goes for at least $300 or $400. Good luck finding one in decent shape with all of the parts, stickers and the whole diecast issue is of concern because I don't think the giftset had diecast in the US (unsure about Japan). I'd say $93 for a replica of the original G1 Japanese boxset with a little "Encore" logo somewhere on it is a pretty damn good deal.

As for it being too expensive because you already have this figure in 12 other colored versions for a much cheaper price ... my argument is very simple: this item is not intended for collectors such as yourself. If you think it should be around $50 or less and you feel that the other colored versions of this mold are a substitute for the G1 original, then we're talking about someone who probably isn't looking to spend hundreds of dollars on their collection for original G1 figures. An item like this is intended for collectors of the original items. To a collector like myself, RID Ruination is NOT in any way shape or form a substitute for G1 Bruticus. It seems very alien and strange to me to read comments from users who think that it is.

But not all of the Encores have been three times their vintage price, just mostly the cars. The Mini-bots set is around thirty dollars, and it contains five figures. That comes to about six dollars per figure, which is only really a dollar or two more than what they used to cost (correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Mini-bots used to be around four to five each).

Then, I can also get Metroplex (who‘s not seen hardly as much use as this mold and is quite a good deal larger than this guy) for around ten to fifteen dollars less. I don’t know, it just doesn’t seem like too great of an deal seeing as how I can get even other Encore figures like Metroplex, as stated above for less than what the Combaticons are costing.

But to each their own. I DO see the appeal of being able to own him in his original colors, but I can’t help but feel Defensor, Devastator, or even Menasor would have been better choices.

I'll be on the look out for this set. I never thought Takara would release a combiner on Encore but based on their product last year, it looks like they're going the extra mile for the G1 collector.

It seems Takara is on the ball here, releasing the gestalts is a good move buuut... what I really want to see if Takara has the conjones to re-release an Encore Fortress Maximus sometime in the future, I'm willing to shell out half my paycheck to get my hands on one of those. :SMUG:

I got enough Combaticons and their various repaints over the years. Pass.
If it were the Stunticons, Terrorcons, The Pretender Monsters (aka Dinoking), the Seacons, or the Predacons then I might be interested but Car Robots and RiD have completely burned me out on this group.

It's nice this is coming out for the folks who want it. And it's a good indication that Encore is continuing for a bit more. But, I too would like to see some molds that haven't been used since 1984 - 1987.

Regarding the price - I have a feeling that we're looking at BBTS's inflated price. I bet this will sell for Y6,500 in Japan ($70). BBTS has gone up with a lot of their prices recently.

Just how many times can molds be used or remade. This one seems almost indestructible. Yet other molds didn't survive their initial runs. I could be wrong.

Unfortunately I agree with....everyone.

Pros
-utterly mint G1 Bruticus
-awesome modern box

Cons
-I have a G1 (C-9 at best), 2 G2 (ones going to be sold at TFCon 09!), RiD, Arctic, Desert, KO RiD, and the cute little mini KO RiD

If this was a toon accurate reissue, then it would be a guarantee buy for me.

I'm so torn about this.

Well if that's the case, I have nothing against this besides the fact that there were a few gestalts I personally wanted more. Y6,500 isn't a bad deal though.

I'll see what HLJ charges. If it's as much as you think I might reconsider.

I have the Universe set in the camo color scheme, paid less than ten dollars for them MISB off Ebay, and I have a complete G1 Onslaught. If I'm going to spend 100.00 I'll spend it on completing the G1 set. Still though I'm happy to see a Gestalt team in Encore, hope they do the rest of the teams.

Minibots were around $2.50 to $3.50 depending on the store.

Metroplex was around $30 originally (maybe $35) and I have a feeling he was priced that way to appeal to people who were on the fence about the knock off. I believe the TakaraTomy release of Metroplex was due to the wide scale release of the knock off.

Meh, pass. This mold has been done to death, and I got the orignal loose and in decent shape off of ebay cheaper. Gimme something worthwhile like the Stuntacons or even Leokaiser, something a bit tougher to get a hold of.

Bruticus is hands down my favorite combiner and I love the idea of a fresh minty one, but that price is crazy. Barring the metal versions, one can pick up an original for that price or better, $95 is crazy for that sort of reissue. I mean how much did Ruination cost in stores? Canadian prices were $7-8 for the little guys and Mega Octane was about $16 making a set roughly in the $50-ish range or below.

I hope they at least put a decent amount of work into the design of the boxset.

Overall, I can't really say that I'm utterly excited or I'm just okay by this news. I'm just happy that finally they reissue him in his G1 colors. And yes, I will definitely be getting this despite the price is a little bit pricey. Also, I don't have this mold or even the RID version. I guess, I'm just a G1 Line sucker.

Talk about the price, I think the Encore Cassettes ($47-$50) is probably the most expensive compare to the other reissue. It contains 4 very small figures and only 2 of them are worth getting Eject/Rewind. We got a better deal with the Minibots (5 figures $35-40).

I'm happy about this announcement, but it leaves me in a quandry...

Do I get this or the upcoming Universe Brut Max set? My collection is a hybrid of G1 and Classics/Universe, so either will be fine. I just need to decide which I like better. I'm leaning toward the Encore version b/c you get 5 vehicles and the characters in their intended forms, and not 3 that generally resemble the characters in question.

I think I just decided....but reserve the right to change my mind or buy both. :)

I'll be passing on the Combaticons, seeing as I already possess the complete G1 versions. I'd rather see them re-issue the Protectobots, as they're the last Combiner team I need to complete Scramble City. Or the Seacons. Never got them.

Good to see Encore going strong in 2009 :D
Now let's hope for some mold that haven't been re-issued yet.
I'd like Shockwave, Mirage, Wheeljack, Sunstreaker and Dinobots to name a few but I don't know if these molds are available anymore.

Awesome. Just the other day I was wondering why they've reissued all these big items like Sky Lynx and Omega but not any combiners. And this happens to be the only G1 combiner I'm really interested in getting. Well, maybe Devastator too. But I loves me some Combaticons.

I only have Soundwave and his minions as far as G1 goes, but I'll definitely be adding Bruticus.
