Fortunately, I've got a spare Victorion for the time being where this is not broken. ;)

Can you confirm it is not broken on other Victorion figures? I'm wondering if this is another case of clipping something long and sharpish for toy safety guidelines, like they did for a movie figure, I think. I don't remember which one it was.... Image

It's also nice to see that the final product toned down the bright teals of the prototypes revealed at NYCC/Toy Fair. A marked improvement.

Ryan, I'm not sure why you're not a fan of the Nightbird head in this set. I think it's nice they'd pull a Japanese head sculpt to this side of the Pacific (although it was almost certainly to save on costs). I get that you'd prefer all new everything, but I think that's a tad unrealistic. For a quasi-exclusive box set, they pulled out plenty of stops.

I dont get it, arent they different heads? They sure look different to me:

Image

Of course if I am looking at the wrong head, let me know.

And I totally agree Megatronus, those hands are really not great. They look so off compared to the giant forearms.

So Ryan, do you recomend this set overall?

Oh and dumb question guys but seriously where did all the white from the colourchoice (option c) go?

I wasn't sure if the "spare" was the one used in the photos and another one is on the way...

Once again, the legends chest minion (what's her name again?) is shown in the back of the box to tab much lower on victorion's chest just like groove in early photos of defensor. What's up with that?

The Constructicon colors are visually appealing, not puke green and puke off-red. The Victorion color scheme stands out as pretty gross even amidst the sea of other CW and UW combiner color schemes.

Red and green are not the greatest color combination, mostly in part to color blindness. I have an extremely mild form of it, mostly with extreme shades of red or green that border on being brown.

Colour (color) blindness (colour vision deficiency, or CVD) affects approximately 1 in 12 men (8%) and 1 in 200 women in the world. In Britain this means that there are approximately 2.7 million colour blind people (about 4.5% of the entire population), most of whom are male.

If you've never done a color blind test before, give one a whirl. I wasn't even aware that I had a mild form of it until about 5 years ago one Thanksgiving when my brother-in-law started passing around his phone that had a color blind app on it. I thought everyone was screwing with me because I couldn't see one of the numbers that the rest of them could see plain as day.

http://enchroma.com/test/instructions/
http://colorvisiontesting.com/ishihara.htm

I'm assuming that the degrees with how people "see" red and greens, that this impacts your perception of whether or not the Victorion set has a decent color scheme or not. Of course, personal opinion obviously comes into play, but it's more complex with this set because of the red and green color palette.

That was fun and informative! I always assumed I had a slight skew in my color perception just by default of being male. I had heard all men see color different then women.

I have perfect color vision!
This is a relief due to the creative nature of many of my endeavors.

Thanks Dr. Seibsie! ;)^

Although I am still unclear on my opinion of Vicky's colors. There are other factors that bother me more, but I will say she has grown on me. Still really like the concept of a gang of super tough ladies. GIRL POWER punch to the face! :BLACKEYE:

It's not just the color scheme, but some of the individual bots have horrible head sculpts as well. I really enjoy the head for the combined figure, but the 2 cars heads' are very off putting to me.

The science behind colour-vision is pretty fascinating! (Thanks to the oddities of the X-chromosome, it's actually possible (but quite rare) for XX people to have 4-6-colour vision. It's an understudied subject, sadly.)

Deadput wrote:

I'd say almost all Combiners have colour schemes that are a bit screwy one way or another (consequence of trying to make the colour layouts work for individual and combined forms), but Victorion's problem might be that her paintjob's awkward in a different manner to preexisting combiners. Guys like Devastator have the "monochromatic blob" problem, guys like Menasor have the "we're not even trying" problem (although that does seem to be fairly effective at deflecting critique).

Victorion comes off as kind of "crumbly" - the colour layouts of her individual components are already fairly small and jumbled, which only gets more noticeable when they're all stuck together. I think she would've benefited from her colours being mapped in larger blocks, and maybe mixing up the colour scheme between some limbs (cars teal w/ cerulean, copters rust w/ white etc).

Deadput wrote:I bet that if Victorion was from the original G1 toyline no one would care and they would call her colors iconic cause nostalgia is a blinding thing.
Yeah, new characters get held to weirdly high standards that legacy characters don't. Iconic/traditional is more of an excuse than a reason.

Hardly any different from most fembot head sculpts hell one of the car bots has Nightbird's headsculpt (The look not mold)

It's because their new characters isn't it?

Stormclash and Jumpstream have a very forced feminine look, especially because of the "lipstick" they painted on each figure. I also find Jumpstream's oval head with the weird brow to be some sort of amalgamation of Arcee and Windblade that just comes off looking disproportionate.

I enjoy the characters looks and story in the IDW books, so this is not about them being new characters.

Finally, I really get the impression that you are trying to bait me into some sort of argument. If that's the case than that is pretty juvenile.

No, the sculpting on that figure is much more natural. If they had added a heavy coat of bright red paint on that face, maybe I would think other wise.

Over all I think that figure is a great example of how to make a robotic figure have softer features. But then again that's the difference you get in quality with a Masterpiece vs a deluxe

Yeah, I think its a great example too (of changing a mold for a different gender) but for deluxes I dont think what they did is all that bad. And as with Strongarm and other lady tfs, they can have whatever body they want. Of course it would be more convincing if this was the first time we saw these molds rather than seeing it on male tfs before. Hasbro was in a tough spot with these retools but I think they did ok in the end. The only one that doesnt work for me is the one based on the breakdown mold but I think its just because of myfeelings towards that mold

I'll spin it this way: It's a matter of opinion. I happen to think that Devastator is the most visually appealing gestalt, because of the color scheme. Other than the chest, arms, and a few spots on the legs, he's all green, not a jumble and mish-mash of a bunch of different shapes and colors that just look like a walking junkyard like most, if not all, the other gestalts. Predaking is perhaps an exception, as well as JRX from Car Robots. Otherwise, the rest of the gestalt aren't as visually pleasing to me as Devy. But as I said, my opinion.
