Takara can't have all the fun, right? While Takara's been getting domestic exclusives such as DOTM Arcee, Vortex and Skywarp, the run stops now. Courtesy of Autobase Aichi, we have an image of an upcoming Sideswipe repaint with Starscream's Mechtech. In Japan it will be a Bic Camera Store exclusive, called Dark Steel, while in nations where Hasbro is present, this figure will be in Deluxe Wave 5, named Dark Iron. However since this is a Takara exclusive, it is possible that there will be some differences between the Hasbro and Takara versions.

For those in Japan, the pre-order for this figure will be available starting August 16th, while the figure will be released in September 23rd. Enjoy!

The blades on the mechtech weapon are different. Starscream's aren't curved like that.

i love it!
i like how someone can take starscream's mechtech and make it look and work better for himself.
the only complaint is that he sort of is over stocking on swords. And i thought generation drift had a problem.

another note: his vehicle mode looks like a movieverse version of SG blurr's vehicle mode and his robot mode ressembles SG goldbug

At BotCon, they said he was supposed to be a homage to BW Quickstrike.

Any of you guys have Starscram and Sideswipe?
'swipe can barely hold those weapons, how is this going to work?
He doesn't have mech-tech ports on his arms, so you cant attach them together or separately. He can't really hold the combined weapon except at really odd angles, and they end up looking more like a very awkwardly held staff as opposed to a sword. He can hold the single non-gimmick blade well enough in his left hand, and can awkwardly hold the gimmick park also in his left hand but that's about it. How is this supposed to work?
You can't just slap any old mech-tech on a retail toy! Yes it's a fun 'swapping weapon' gimmick when you have lots of them and can go "This combination looks cool. This one doesn't. This one does. This one doesn't." at no extra cost, but you can't just give a retail figure any old weapon. This is one case where 'Sideswipe + more swords' doesn't work.

Thats what i was going to ask it realy does look like him and it fits a car body well the hole thing looks very aquatic.

I do like it and will pick him up but does this mean i have to buy tuner skids and mudflaps :shock:

Hm, looks kinda cool, I prefer the ROTF versions though, but I like that they gave him a Giant Sword...to add to more swords...? o_O

Meh. The color scheme doesn't work that well in vehicle mode. Would rather just get a regular Sideswipe and paint it silver.
