Mistakes like this happen a lot more than you think. Look at this G1 TRU Commemorative Series release. Enlarge the pic. You will see the side of the box has Autobot spelled as Auotbot.

It is not a variant either as from what I have seen they are all misspelled.

Or the first MP-01 Convoy, More than Meets "teh" Eye. Though in Japan the spelling of Ultla Magnus is kind off correct with "L" as "R".
