I don't like this figure. I don't need another Tarantulas with a non-Beast mode. Just got that in the mail last month.

I know what the fiction/naming implied, and you can make up new stories all you want to, but this is poorly timed, lazy, and adds no value to the box set for me.

The ultimate Botcon punk move:

Boxset>>two Voyagers, three Deluxes. (Two combiiners, two limbs for one and one for the other)
Attendee figure>> 1 of the limbs,
At the Show add ons>>> the other limbs you need, and Swwps for Galvatronus.

You can't complete the Botcon combiner unless you go! Mwahaha.

Anyways, i certainly understand anyones complaint about duplicating Tarantulas, but this does not, to me, fit the asthetic of DofFP the way Sub3 Tarantulas did (Yes, I know he's not intended, but most of us who have DofFP are using him) so I am okay with a CW Tarantulas. And mre con affiliated limbs are good.

I was trying to figure out how to word my response so i wouldn't have a legion of the faithful attack me & you have come to my rescue. This pretty much sums up my thoughts exactly. After multiple visits, it's time to start putting out Beast Wars characters that are beasts or just leave them alone. And before it's questioned, I am a Beast Wars kid. Beast Wars was my jam.

I think with regards to the club, they can only work with what hasbro has done lately. I can't blame them for wanting to get in on the beast wars anniversary.

Question though, could the club use any of the old beast wars moulds or is it far gone for them to use them?

For sure they are. I'm just not big on the sale of homaging for the sake of homaging.

Bingo. I understand wanting to do something for Beast Wars' 20th, especially since Hasbro is probably doing extremely little on their own. These feel a bit forced though, at least for right now. Hard to say with only two figures shown but I'm kinda bummin' on the theme now. Maybe if Sea Clamp and pals end up being a thing, using molds that don't feel forced, that will work out to be a cool thing.

Just a quick counterpoint since it'll get brought up anyhow - I get why a BW set is being done. If it wasn't, given Hasbro's sort of "meh" attitude on it as a constant, the first thing out of a lot of mouths would be "why didn't the club do Beast Wars stuff, it's the 20th anniversary!" To this I say: let's chill on anniversaries. This is an old brand now, almost every year will be the anniversary of something. It's the ten year anniversary of Cybertron, and there's been absolutely nothing homaging that stuff either. I want some premium deco Cybertron 10th redecos, darn it, but this isn't going to happen because only so much can happen. I'd rather see the brand just move forward and attempt evolution than go into a death spiral from worrying about homaging and celebrating every past achievement.

Five tends to be the standard number per boxed set, so it's not a far-fetched guess. And five is all that's needed for a CW combiner.

We've gotten five figures in the following year's boxed sets (small accessory figures like Targetmasters, Headmasters, Mini-Cons--barring one case--and Arms Microns count as just that, accessories): 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

I don't think you're being quite fair there, you can't just go by the number of figures. Let's take a closer look at the most recent years:

2015 - Legend x1, Deluxe x2, Voyager x2 (new heads x2), an entire custom pretender shell, and accessory bots x5
2014 - Deluxe x3 (new heads x2), Voyager x1, a heavily retooled Ultra, and accessory bots x2
2013 - Deluxe x3 (all new heads), Voyager x2 (new head x1)
2012 - Deluxe x5 (new heads x4), Voyager x1 (new head)
2011 - Deluxe x4 (new heads x2), Voyager x1 (new head)
2010 - Deluxe x3 (new heads x2), Voyager x1, Ultra x1 (new head)

So yeah, just giving us four deluxe and a voyager with five new heads isn't going to cut it. That's only slightly better than we got in 2011 which was the worst in the last six years as far as what you got in the box goes.

Sabrblade wrote:
Emerje wrote:You know we're going to get a lot more than one Voyager and four deluxe, that's less than what the subscription service is giving us.
Last I counted the Subscription Service will be giving us one Voyager and six Deluxes.

Riiiight, last I checked four Deluxe and a Voyager is less than 6 Deluxe and a Voyager. :-?

Emerje wrote:And besides, when was the last time a set was made of just one faction? 2011, but that was a really small set compared to what we normally get these days. Otherwise there's always at least one member of the opposition represented.
Though this year's set had multiple factions, all five of the Cybertron's Most Wanted boxed set toys were bad guys.

But different factions nonetheless. And not just different factions, but different fictions, that's like the ultimate example of my point.

I think there is some achievements worth remembering, and beast wars is one of them as that reignited the transformers as a brand, otherwise it could if died off after G2 flopped. I do understand what you both saying though.

While we're on the subject of FunPub doing a Beast Wars theme this year for the 20th anniversary:

FunPub, you now own the mold of a monkey who can fit a truck inside it. If you want to make money hand over fist, PAINT HIM LIKE OPTIMUS PRIMAL! He would be both a trukk and a munky. :D And you can just paint the truck in the same colors. Or maybe even paint him a sweet cherry color like the Dodge Ram OP.

You have one job, FunPub. Don't mess this up.

Huh, Tarantulas as a SWAT APC. Surprise surprise, never expected that one. What's next, not actually releasing the Tripredacus Council, but rather Barrage, Venom and Nautilator instead?

TakaraTomy's Deluxe Groove for the guy? My theory: Too soon. TakaraTomy-only molds have a so-called "lag" for producing Club figures with, due to the fact FunPub simply doesn't know about them until the fans do: Hasbro doesn't, or rather is unable to, provide information about what TakaraTomy may do on their own.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Looking for:
- TR Furos (Hardhead's head) and Crashbash (lost him :()
- PotP Punch head
- TR Galvatron right arm (the gun one)
- CW Brake-Neck/UW Wildrider, CW Offroad
- TR Twinferno & Grotusque
- Greenlight, Lancer and PotP Elita-1 (plus repro Victorion hands and feet?)

With a little imagination you can actually give CW Prime a gorilla mode simply by making him do a back bend and using the super mode head. It's sort of like the Transmetal transformation so maybe do him up in those colors since Ravage and Tarantulas are both TMs, with some good blue metallic paint.

Also Jelze makes a good point about Groove. It's also probably harder to coordinate the use of new molds than it is with Hasbro.

I posted this in the combiner wars thread, but if you convert the top half of CW primes body to torso mode and add 2 deluxes as arms, you will have CW Optimus Primal ;) :BOT:

I thought of another potential option for this combiner. Specifically, the Legends class component (if it's going to have one, that is).

In the third Beast Wars: Uprising prose story, "Burning Bridges", there is a mnemosurgeon named Vampire who works inside the Mandala, headquarters of the Predacon Secret Police. And he happens to be based on the design on Legends class Groove.

Image

Granted, this year's story could be set in the BW cartoon continuity proper like DoFP was, but that wouldn't stop there being a cartoonverse version of Vampire as well as an Uprisingverse version. ;)

It gets a bit dampened when you consider his name is Vampire. Even by transformers standards that's dumb.

Eh, I'm not entirely sure if that's his actual name since the story made it sound like that's just what he's "called" rather than "named".

Heh, Stiletto even made a "for Primus's sake!" remark about the name. :P

Plus, I sincerely doubt it'd be a Trademarkable name for a Hasbro (via Fun Pub) TF toy to use since it's so generic, so there's a good chance that he'd get a different name if he were to ever get a toy.

Cicada on from Scattershot makes sense, but I'm kind of hoping they use the Powerglide/Viper mold for him.

I like the suggestion of Ramhorn from Firstaid, but am quite surprised Sea-Clamp is not going to be an Amphibious Assault vehicle based on Rook. It would have given him clamps...

I suppose the Hotspot/Onslaught/Bludgeon/Demolisher mold would have the better 'profile' though - long altmode body, big shoulders, opening chest.

Even though it was Magnaboss whose combined weapon was a sword, I wonder if it would be possible for Ram Horn, Sea Clamp, and Cicadacon to each come with a redecoed Arms Micron component of the Dark Matter Calibur. Ram Horn could have Gabu (the bladed weapon), Sea Clamp could have Dai (the gun), and Cicadacon could have Baru (the cleaver). Then the combined form could wield the big sword.

Weapon: Armor Axe
Sabrblade wrote:Even though it was Magnaboss whose combined weapon was a sword, I wonder if it would be possible for Ram Horn, Sea Clamp, and Cicadacon to each come with a redecoed Arms Micron component of the Dark Matter Calibur. Ram Horn could have Gabu (the bladed weapon), Sea Clamp could have Dai (the gun), and Cicadacon could have Baru (the cleaver). Then the combined form could wield the big sword.

Would work, and would be a cool homage :BOT:

Weapon: Twin Sonic Cannons
So I've thought of the character who would really work well with the Rook Mold:

Scorponok.

Sea Clamp was who I was hoping for, but then they went and used Tarantulas instead. >:oP
